Inter Departmental Offshore Regatta (IDOR) 2017

  • Sailing

CSSC (Civil Service Sports Council) Sports and Leisure, through the Civil Service Sailing Association (CSSA), arrange an annual Inter Departmental Offshore Regatta (IDOR) in which HASSRA sponsors and enters one or more chartered yachts to compete against yachts from other government departments and CSSA recognised clubs.

  • The 2017 Inter-Departmental Offshore Regatta (the IDOR) will take place from Sunday 18th June to Friday 23rd June 2017, racing from Cowes on the Isle of Wight. The crew will depart from Fairview Sailing at Port Hamble Marina, near Southampton.

HASSRA is looking for crew members of all abilities to participate in the 2017 IDOR. It’s a programme of inshore and offshore races. It is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy some exciting sailing and competitive racing. Novices will receive instruction and guidance from the more experienced crew members.

Accommodation for the duration of the event is on board the yachts. You will need your own sleeping bag, pillow etc.

HASSRA will pay for the hire of the boat plus all breakfasts and lunches.

A small contribution of £10 is payable by all competitors towards those costs.

You will also need to pay for your own evening meals, wet weather gear and sailing boots (costing around £35 to hire) plus sailing gloves (which you will need to purchase).

IDOR crews typically comprise eight per yacht, namely Skipper, Mate, Helm, Navigator, Foredeck Crew and Cockpit Crew. Applications from specialists such as expert Spinnaker handlers are particularly welcome. The HASSRA National Sailing Team Manager, Debbie Edyveane, always aims to select a balanced crew with safety being paramount. However, every year at least one novice is selected for each boat, along with as many first-time applicants as possible.
