HASSRA Livelife Challenge

Livelife ‘Activity’ Challenge 2017

  • This year we want more people than ever to get active. So this is your opportunity to get together with colleagues to do something that inspires you to lead a healthier and more active lifestyle. You set the pace, so it’s entirely up to you how challenging your challenge is…..

And don’t forget there’s a HASSRA Committee and Wellbeing Champion in most offices who are ready to help you get your activity under way.

    Why an activity challenge?

Research shows that physical activity can boost self-esteem, mood, sleep quality and energy, as well as reduce the risk of stress, all of which will contribute to a happier, healthier lifestyle.

Taking part in a daily activity doesn’t need to be too strenuous or time consuming and can be factored into your working day. By making basic changes to your daily routine you can make a real difference. Park a little further away and walk the extra to the office, take the stairs instead of the lift, enjoy a lunchtime stroll or for those who want to push themselves join together for a run after work. Exercise is free and easy, and can be done in your own time at your own pace.

    What can you do?

You and your group can decide what it is you want to do. It will depend on each group’s goals and objectives, but here are a few ideas of how you could use your grant, which might help you on your way.

      • Purchase some pedometers and set a walking challenge – such as a virtual walk from base camp to the top of Mount Everest.

      • Purchase a small piece fitness equipment for the office, such as an exercise bike and monitor miles

      • Use towards a trial at a fitness session at your local gym or pool

      • Entry fee for a sports team into a local league, such as 5aside football

      • Purchase equipment to support teams to enter local sporting leagues, such as bibs, balls and shuttlecocks

      • Put toward a team entry fee into a local fun run, 10k or for those of you who really want to push, a half marathon. You can train together and will get a real sense of achievement when you complete it as a team.

How Do I Apply?

  • You can apply for a grant of between £50 and £150 by completing the application form. How much you get depends on the number of people taking part in the challenge. When completing your application, we would like you to consider three important things:

Objective – What do you hope to achieve as a result of your challenge?

Inclusivity – Is your chosen activity suitable to all those staff who would like to be involved. Do you need to consider a two tier approach to support both those less active and those who are already active?

Sustainability – Is your chosen activity sustainable over a long or short period of time and how are you going to encourage staff to continue once the original grant has been used.

Once completed, please send your Livelife Challenge application to Tina Street. You will be advised within 10 working days if your application has been successful.
