HASSRA Wales Awards for 2023

It’s time to make your nominations for the HASSRA Wales awards for 2023

Nominations should be submitted to HASSRA.WALES no later than Friday 9th February 2024

Nominations for awards don't have to be long or wordy, they should be no more than 2 sides of A4 in Ariel 12 font. The nomination just needs to sum up how the team, or person, being nominated meets the criteria  (see below) for the award.  

HASSRA Wales are inviting nominations in the following categories:

  • Best Large Club (150+ members) - Bibbings Cup

  • Best Small Club - Office Shield

  • Best Volunteer  - Edgar Evans Trophy.   Awarded to an individual member who has contributed significantly to HASSRA Wales in a voluntary capacity 

  • Business Sponsor - Linda Badman Award.   Awarded to an individual Manager who has made a significant and positive impact by supporting HASSRA and encouraging participation 

  • Wellbeing Champion - Awarded to a team or individual that has made a significant contribution to promoting health and wellness and improving morale

  • Innovation – for a club or individual that has devised a new activity, process or product that has attracted new members and engaged existing members

  • Best Arts & Crafts Contributor

  • Best Newcomer

  • Best Sportsperson - Henry Ayabowei Award

  • Best Team  - Geoff Griffiths Award.   Awarded to the most sporting person or team in friendly competition

  • Best Footballer - Dai Prosser Award

  • Best Rugby Player - Gwyn Jones Memorial Trophy

  • Most Successful Bowler - Ron Stephens Memorial Trophy

The winners of  HASSRA Wales Awards will be considered for nomination at a National  level where there is an aligned National Award category

Nominations should be submitted no later than Friday 9th February to the HASSRA Wales inbox at   HASSRA.WALES@DWP.GOV.UK

Award criteria

Club, Volunteer, Wellbeing and Sponsor awards will be judged on the following criteria:

  • The nominee has made a significant and positive impact to the working lives of their HASSRA colleagues.
  • The nominee has introduced or supported new & innovative activities which are inclusive to all (including home workers) that resulted in benefitting members, boosting morale and/or promoting health and wellness.
  • The nominee has adapted their approach and utilised the enhanced use of technology for communication and marketing.
  • The nominee has continued to support and promote the National Programme whenever possible and encourage new members to join.
  • The nominee secured/­provided support from management and encouraged participation.
  • The nominee made effective use of HASSRA tools, grants and materials.

Innovation Award

Innovation is a continuous learning process and we’re always on the lookout for new and innovative ways to recruit new members. This award will go to the individual or group of members (e.g. sub-committee/­club/­region) which has introduced something new during the year in question. This could be a new activity, process or product that has attracted new members and engaged existing members. Please tell us about something new or different you’ve introduced. Tell us about:

•         how you developed the process, product or activity

•         how you turned your ideas into practice

•         how you communicated your new approach

•         the level of management support and how you gained it

•         any IT you may have used to help you along the way

•         the number of new members recruited during the year in question

Best Arts & Crafts Contributor

This award is introduced to recognise members who readily participate in non-sporting activities, e.g. art, quizzes, drama, music, photography, baking, etc. (this list is not exhaustive). The judges will be looking at the following criteria from each submission:

  • Achievements during 2023 and at what level (local, regional, national)
  • The nominee can be nominated for contributions and achievements in a specific category and this should be clear from the first paragraph. If the nomination is seeking to recognise achievements in a number of different activities, this should also be clear from the outset, though it would be normal for there to be at least one activity that would take precedence over the others.

Best Newcomer

This award is to acknowledge members who have become HASSRA volunteers during the year in question. Whilst this is not the award for Volunteer of the Year, the qualities displayed in your nomination should be akin to those shown in that category. These keen volunteers will have had an immediate impact at a local club and/or regional level with a visible display of commitment and enthusiasm for the Association. Please detail:

•         Nominee and the date they became a HASSRA volunteer

•         Their level of enthusiasm and how this has been demonstrated

•         The ways in which they have encouraged others to join HASSRA and/or participate in                                                                          

           HASSRA activities

•         Anything else that makes them ‘stand out’ as a new HASSRA volunteer

HASSRA Wales Sports Awards

Best Sportsperson  - Henry Ayabowei Award – Person who has been most successful, or contributed most, to sport in HASSRA Wales

Best Team  - Geoff Griffiths Award.   Awarded to the most sporting person or team in friendly competition

Best Footballer – Dai Prosser Award

Most Successful Bowler - Ron Stephens Memorial Trophy

New National Award for 2023 - Best Recruitment

This is a new National award to acknowledge clubs that have driven recruitment to increase membership.

Nominations aren’t required as National HASSRA will use HASSRA Live data to identify the best performing associations and invite representatives to the Annual Awards Dinner in Warwick, where the winners will be announced.
